Another month down!
This is my income report for July 2017, along with my thoughts and updates for the month, and my goals for August.
You can see my previous income reports here.
I’m really enjoying writing these income reports. They are a great source of motivation for me, and also a good chance to reflect on the month. I’ve started writing about my goals and targets too!
What is this?
They say money is the last taboo. So why am I publishing my earnings?
Well, the Boost My Budget project has two purposes:
- To help me earn more money
- To help you earn more money!
By sharing honestly exactly how much I managed to make each month and where it came from, I hope my income reports will be a genuinely useful resource for anyone else looking to make a bit of extra cash.
Also, sharing my income will help me hold myself accountable and will hopefully motivate me to increase that figure each month!
I hope that seeing how a normal person like me with a full time job is managing to make a bit of extra money on the side will encourage you to do the same. I probably never would have got started without some other bloggers’ income reports out there showing me what is possible.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s see how I did this month trying to make extra money from home!
My extra income in July 2017
July was a really good month for me. I have kept up a few of my old favourite ways of making extra cash. I’ve also introduced a new income stream, and I’ve got plenty more ideas in the pipeline!
The grand total of my extra income in July is £222.16.
Here’s the breakdown of how I made it:
Blog income: £156.66
This month I received my first major payment for affiliate earnings! Woohoo! Affiliate earnings are when somebody purchases a product or service I recommend through one of my links, and I earn a small commission on it. I only promote products that I have am happy to recommend, so it’s a great feeling that people are actually reading my blog, acting on my recommendations, and then I make a little money out of it as well!
Matched betting: £53.52
Matched betting is a way of making risk-free profit using bookmakers’ special offers and free bets. I struggled a bit recently with no football on, but made a nice profit on a few good offers during Wimbledon. I hope I can increase this next month when the football season starts up again! Click here to make around £45 with a free trial of my favorite matched betting service.
Job Spotter: £5.16
Job Spotter is my favourite new money making app which I just discovered last month. It pays you to take pictures of job hiring signs. Payment is in Amazon vouchers.
Citizenme is an app that pays you to answer very short, easy surveys on your smartphone.
FeaturePoints: $3.00 = £2.28
FeaturePoints is a fun new way to earn money on your phone. You earn points for downloading apps, which you can cash out through PayPal or Amazon vouchers.
1Q: $0.75 = £0.57
1Q is a survey app similar to Citizenme. Pays $0.25 per question!
Aweber: $19.00 = £14.42
For running my email list.
Tailwind: $105.00 = £79.93
After testing out their free trial, I decided to sign up for a one year plan with Tailwind to promote my blog on Pinterest.
Amounts in USD were converted to GBP using the exchange rate on the day I wrote this post.
Net profit for July
I made £222.16 and spent £94.35 in June, so my total net profit was £127.81.
July was a great month for me for several blog/side hustle-related reasons!
Firstly, as you can see, my extra income was pretty good this month. I made almost £100 in extra earnings more than last month. I also introduced a new income stream in the form of affiliate earnings from my blog.
Secondly, I’ve started a new side hustle which I’m really excited about. I started making money from it within the first four days, and I can’t wait to see how much more I can develop it this month. I will write a post explaining all when I’ve had a bit more time to test it out!
Last but not least…
Boost My Budget was nominated as a finalist for the award for Best Money Making Blog at the UK Money Bloggers’ 2017 SHOMO Awards.
I have been blogging for less than a year, and I am truly touched and amazed to be nominated alongside some seriously professional and brilliant bloggers who I admire a lot! 🙂
The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in London in September. I can’t wait to go, not least because I’ll finally get to meet up with some of my fave bloggers face-to-face.
I am also up for the ‘People’s Choice‘ award, which anyone can vote for! If you enjoy reading my blog, I would be very honoured if you would consider voting for me here. Voting is open until the end of August.
Thank you very much, anyone who has voted for me or otherwise supported my blog!
July goal review
Last month I set three goals for myself:
- Publish 6 new posts on Boost My Budget. Yes! I wrote 6 posts myself, and hosted 2 sponsored posts.
- Publish 6 new posts to my new website. No 🙁 I only managed 2 posts in July… oops.
- Work on one new blog traffic strategy per week. Erm… not really. I started working through my blog traffic ebook, but went off on a tangent and got really into Pinterest instead. My page views from Pinterest are up though! So it was worth it!
I also wrote one guest post which was published on the lovely Frugal Teen’s blog in July. You can read it here.
I will be away for a bit in August, so I don’t want to stretch myself too much. Still, I am feeling ambitious, and I have a lot of plans for my blog and my newest side hustle!
Here are my goals:
- Publish 6 new posts on Boost My Budget
- Publish 2 new posts on my niche site
- Work on 2 new blog traffic strategies
- Make $50 from new side hustle
- Beat this month’s income of £222.16!
Please check back next month and see how I do 🙂
