Here we go again!

I’m really enjoying writing these income reports. They are a great source of motivation for me, and also a good chance to reflect on the month. You may also notice that my reports are getting longer month after month, as I’ve started writing about my goals and targets too!

This is my income report for May 2017, along with my thoughts and updates for the month, and my goals for June.

You can see my previous income reports here.

They say money is the last taboo. So why am I publishing my earnings?

Well, the Boost My Budget project has two purposes:

  1. To help me earn more money
  2. To help you earn more money!

By sharing honestly exactly how much I managed to make each month and where it came from, I hope my income reports will be a genuinely useful resource for anyone else looking to make a bit of extra cash.

Also, sharing my income will help me hold myself accountable and will hopefully motivate me to increase that figure each month!

I hope that seeing how a normal person like me with a full time job is managing to make a bit of extra money on the side will encourage you to do the same. I probably never would have got started without some other bloggers’ income reports out there showing me what is possible.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s see how I did this month trying to make extra money from home!

My extra income in May 2017

I started investigating ways to make money online in mid September 2016. This is month marks the eighth full month I have been side hustling! I am only including money that was paid into my account in May 2017.

In the last couple of months I’ve undergone a bit of a change in my approach to side hustling. When I first started the Boost My Budget project back in September, my only aim was to make money – as fast as possible! I was most interested in ways of making instant cash online.

Now, I’m more interested in building up sustainable income streams that will eventually replace my salary and allow me to go self employed! This means I’ve spent less time on instant earners such as matched betting, and more time on slow-burning projects which I hope to build into small businesses.

The grand total of my extra income May is (a rather measly) £16.59.

Here’s the breakdown of how I made it:

Website testing: $10.00 (£7.74) + £2.00 = £9.74

Website testing is a fun and easy way to earn money from home.  You just have to record yourself visiting different websites and describing your thoughts, and it pays around $10 per test. I use WhatUsersDo and UserTesting.

Citizenme: £3.48

Citizenme is an app that pays you to answer very short, easy surveys on your smartphone.

FeaturePoints: $3.00 = £2.32

FeaturePoints is a fun new way to earn money on your phone which I discovered this month. You earn points for downloading apps, which you can cash out through PayPal or Amazon vouchers.

Matched betting: £1.05

This month I had no time and I didn’t do any matched betting at all. Literally all I did was one free spins offer that landed in my inbox, and I won £1.05! Must step this up again next month! If you’re interested in matched betting, you can earn around £40 with a free trial at Profit Accumulator to see how it works.

Net profit for May

I didn’t have any expenses in May, so my total net profit was £16.59.

May thoughts

This month has been a brilliant one for me personally, but not so great on the money making front!

In May my brother got married, we had some family staying for a week or so before, and then we had a family holiday afterwards. I had lots of fun and a much-needed break from work, but obviously not so much free time to work on my blogs, matched betting and other side hustles!

I did manage to get organised enough to write and schedule some blog posts in advance. This helped me keep to my rough plan of publishing to each of my blogs once a week, even when I was away. I also used a social media scheduler to keep some posts going out. However, I didn’t really check in or engage much with the blog community this month, and maybe because of this I had a small dip in views.

On the plus side, I have continued building up a small amount of affiliate income in some of my accounts, although still not enough to cash out and include in these reports! Maybe next month ?

May goal review

Last month I set four goals for myself:

  • Publish 4 new posts on Boost My Budget. Yes! I’m pleased with my work on this blog in May. I published six posts total: four of my own, and two guest posts (see them here and here). I also wrote one guest post which was published on the UK Money Bloggers site.
  • Publish at least 6 new posts to my new website. No 🙁 I only managed five new posts in May.
  • Get the email autoresponder all set up and active. Yes! I did get the email stuff for my new site set up at last. It was a lot more work than I expected, so I’m pleased I took the time to get it sorted. Now I need to start building my email list.

June goals

June also looks like it’s going to be a crazy busy month! We already have something on every single weekend. Saturdays are usually my main day for blogging, so I’ll have to work hard during the weekdays to keep things ticking over.

I’m planning to get back into my routine of waking up early to work on my blogs and side hustles before work. Early mornings are the only time I know I’ll get uninterrupted time to concentrate. Evenings just tend to get eaten up by chores and life! Plus it feels good to go to my day job knowing I’ve already done something practical to work towards my own dreams.

I also want to do some more matched betting. I had a month off, but it really is such a good way to earn money from home. I’m aiming to check in with Profit Accumulator at least twice a week and see if there are any good offers.

Here are my goals:

  • Publish 4 new posts on Boost My Budget. I would like to post more often on this blog, but realistically I don’t have time to commit to more. I would love to feature more guest posts though if any other money bloggers out there would like to write something!
  • Publish 6 new posts on my niche site.
  • Learn about Facebook ads, and launch my first ad campaign to drive traffic to my niche site and hopefully build my email list!

Please check back next month and see how I do 🙂

Have a good June everyone!
