Another month down!
Here is my income report for August 2017, along with my thoughts and updates for the month, and my goals for September.
You can see my previous income reports here.
What is this?
They say money is the last taboo. So why am I publishing my earnings?
Well, the Boost My Budget project has two purposes:
- To help me earn more money
- To help you earn more money!
By sharing honestly exactly how much I managed to make each month and where it came from, I hope my income reports will be a genuinely useful resource for anyone else looking to make a bit of extra cash.
Also, sharing my income helps me hold myself accountable and motivates me to increase that figure each month!
I hope that seeing how a normal person like me with a full time job is managing to make a bit of extra money on the side will encourage you to do the same. I probably never would have got started without some other bloggers’ income reports out there showing me what is possible.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s see how I did this month trying to make extra money from home!
My extra income in August 2017
August was a really good month for me. Even though I was really busy in my day job and I was also on holiday for half the month, I still managed to make a decent amount of extra income! I made even more money than last month, and I introduced a few new ways of making extra cash too.
The grand total of my extra income in August is £359.09.
Please note, this report only includes the money that was paid into my account in August.
Here’s the breakdown of how I made it:
Sponsored posts: £171.77
This is the money earned for publishing two sponsored posts on this blog.
Affiliate income: £81.14
Affiliate earnings are when somebody purchases a product or service that I recommend, and I earn a small commission on it. I made this money through my blog and on Pinterest (post on this coming next week!)
Matched betting: £52.50
Matched betting is a way of making risk-free profit using bookmakers’ special offers and free bets. I was really happy to see the start of the football season this month (never thought I’d say that!) because lots of offers started up again! I didn’t do much matched betting because I’ve been out of the country this month, but I’m happy with this extra £52 for a couple of hours’ work. Click here to make around £45 with a free trial of my favorite matched betting service.
Task360 is a kind of mystery shopping app which pays you to carry out small tasks like checking on store displays while you’re out and about. You can read my review of Task360 here.
Job Spotter: £8.00
Job Spotter is my current favourite money making app. It pays you to take pictures of job hiring signs in shop windows. Payment is in Amazon vouchers.
Field Agent: £5.00
Field Agent is a mystery shopping app, similar to Task360. I made this easy money taking pictures of a special promotion in a high street shop during my lunch break.
This is a new survey app I’ve been trying.
Citizenme is an app that pays you to answer very short, easy surveys on your smartphone.
1Q is a survey app similar to Citizenme. It pays $0.25 per question but as you can see, it’s not very busy!
For running my email list.
I’ve started paying for a BoardBooster subscription to automate pinning to Pinterest.
Note: some of the above payments were in USD, but for ease of reporting, I converted everything to GBP using the exchange rate on the day I wrote this post.
Net profit for August
I made £359.09 and spent £18.69 in August, so my total net profit was £340.50.
I am really pleased with my extra income this month! As you can see, at a total of £359.09 I smashed last month’s extra income of £222.16.
The biggest chunk of my income was from blogging (sponsored posts and affiliate income). I have worked so hard on this site over the last few months, and I am over the moon that my effort is starting to pay off!
I also found a few new ways to make extra money this month. In total, I have a whopping 10 different sources of extra income! Even though the biggest chunk of income was thanks to my blog, you can see I use a wide variety of ways to make extra cash, including survey apps, matched betting and other websites. I hope this shows that there are ways for everyone to make extra money, whether you have a blog or not.
Unfortunately, this month I did let my blogging slide a bit. I had to do a lot of overtime at work in the first half of the month, and then I went on holiday in the second half of the month. This meant I didn’t publish as many posts as I wanted to. I have more free time in September and I have lots of plans, so watch this space!
Oh, another great thing that happened in August is that I made my first sale on my other website! It was for an online course, and I made $150 commission from that one sale 🙂 I won’t actually get the money for a while because of various terms, but I’m so pleased to know that the site is working. I’ve seriously neglected that site over the last few weeks and in fact I didn’t touch it at all in August, so I’m sure that if I spend more time on it, it could become quite successful!
August goal review
Last month I set myself 5 goals for August:
- Publish 6 new posts on Boost My Budget. No 🙁 In August I only managed to write 3 posts of my own, plus I published 2 sponsored posts. I was happy with the money for the sponsored posts, but I would prefer the ratio of my own posts to paid posts to be higher.
- Publish 2 new posts on my niche site. No. I didn’t add anything at all last month.
- Work on 2 new blog traffic strategies. No! Didn’t do anything at all. My blog traffic is increasing since I started spending more time on Pinterest though.
- Make $50 from new side hustle. Hmm… I think I made about half of this. I have had some tracking issues so I can’t say for certain!
- Beat this month’s income of £222.16. Yes! I smashed this goal with £359.09 this month 🙂
So not a great month goals-wise, but at least I made some money, and had a lovely break!
Here are my goals for this month:
- Publish 6 new posts on Boost My Budget
- Publish 2 new posts on my niche site
- Make pins for my niche site. Pinterest has become one of the biggest sources of traffic for Boost My Budget, but I don’t really use it for the other site. I want to get it all set up this month.
- Beat this month’s income of £359.09
Please check back next month and see how I do ?
