When you’re in debt, it can feel so much more comforting to just turn a blind eye. But when you do this, you’ll often find that you make the situation worse.

Being in debt is tough. It can be incredibly difficult to have to find money to pay off what you need to and still go about your everyday life.

But you also need to know that it’s not impossible. You only have to google ‘getting out of debt’ to see that there are so many people that have done this and a wealth of resources at your fingertips to help you do it too. Just remember, that you managed to get yourself into debt in the first place, of you definitely have the power to get yourself out too. But how?

Maybe the real reason that you’ve been burying your head is that you have absolutely no idea how you’re meant to get out of it. If you don’t know where you start, it can put you off from tackling it all together.

So now, you’ve come to the right place. Because we’re going to work together to find a solution that will suit you. Or several! You may even find that attacking this for a few different angles is what you need to do. So let’s take a look at the seven options you have to help you get out of debt.

1. Change Your Attitude To Money

Now the first thing that you need to do is going to make this entire process happen quicker. If you want to get out of debt and then stay out of debt, you have to change your attitude toward money. We all make money mistakes, but some are easier to avoid than others. Like overspending. Make sure that you never spend money you don’t have. If you want to stop yourself from getting further into debt, you have to rethink your approach to spending.

2. Reduce What You’re Paying Out

Okay so when you’ve got that all ironed out, you really need to reduce what you’re paying out on. You will always be able to cut back. Always! You can reduce your tariffs, stop buying things, and end contracts. Then, the money that you save from these areas can be put towards paying off your debt a lot quicker.

3. Set Up An Automatic Payment

A really smart way to make sure that you’re getting out of debt as quickly as you can is to set up an automatic payment. If you set up a payment for after you’ve been paid, then you know that you’re automatically reducing your debt without really having to do anything. This can feel like a big commitment that you don’t know you’ll always make. But if you really do want to get out of debt, it should be something you’re dying to commit to.

4. Consolidate What You Owe

From here, you might then want to think about consolidating your debt. When you have different credit cards and loans all over the place, it may be really confusing to know what minimum payments you need to pay and when. You may also have crazy rates on everything or even big minimum payments overall. So by consolidating everything, you’ll have one rate and one payment to make.

5. Find Extra Cash

You’ll also want to get some extra money together to start paying off more as soon as you can. But how? Well, there are a range of ideas. The first two include looking into mis-sold short-term loan solicitors and claiming back what you’re owed. But then also looking to sites like eBay to sell your old stuff for extra cash.

6. Start Your Own Thing

But you may also want to look into side-hustle ideas to see what else you can do to make money. If you want to put a lot of work in to then get an ongoing continuous payout, this is going to be your best bet.

7. Get A Second Job

Lastly, if you really want to make sure that you’re generating regular and guaranteed extra cash that you can use to pay down your debt, get a second job. Whether this is working in a cafe on the weekends or using your evenings to work in a call center, do it. Do what you need to do to be able to earn the money that you need. It may be hard work, but when you see that debt going down, you’ll be so glad that you did it.
