For many people, blogging is a hobby. However, for others, it’s a form of income. Here are just a few ways in which you can get paid for your writing talents.

Earn money through ad revenue

If you own a blog, you could consider monetising it by allowing adverts to feature next to your content. The more people than click on these ads, the more revenue you’ll make. Few people can make enough revenue through ads alone to live off – you may not even make any money at all if you’re only getting a small amount of web traffic. Choosing to feature adverts does mean complying by certain copyrighted content rules, which is something worth noting.

Feature sponsored content

It’s possible to get paid by companies for writing a review or an informational post about their product. This could be anything from an album review to a sponsored interview with a upcoming tech company. You’ll find many writers advertising their services on sites like Gumtree and Fiverr.

You could even allow companies to contribute their own content in exchange for a small charge. Whilst sponsored content can be one of the easiest ways to make money blogging, you may not want to accept all content if it’s not related to your blog’s theme – keep your core readers by making sure that it fits the audience of your blog.

Try affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing programs are another way of making money through blogging. This involves writing sponsored content, but instead of being paid for the content itself, you get paid commission on the amount of web visitors/clients that the sponsor receives from your content. An example could include a cooking post in which you recommend a specific brand of blender and link to the company’s site – for every visitor that then goes on to check that site and buy that blender, you could get paid a certain amount of money. Affiliate marketing is most profitable when it comes to big items like cars, travel company deals and high-end good where you’re likely to make more money in commission for each sale.

Add a donate button

Some blogs offer readers the opportunity to donate money. You can do this by simply adding a donate button that allows people to donate as much money as they desire to you via PayPal. This is probably not going to earn you as much money as other methods, however it’s still a potential means of extra generating money that you wouldn’t otherwise have.

Get paid as a guest writer

There are various blogs and companies out there that pay writers to create content. You may have limited choice as to what you write about and certain restrictions, but it could be a way to make a steady income out of your blogging passion. Here are just a few blogs that pay guest writers.
