You’ve launched the site and you’re starting to see a decent amount of traffic. That’s great, but what about those sales you were promised? Getting people to go to the site is half the battle but it’s worthless if none of those visitors are making any purchases. That’s where conversion rates come in; that’s the number of visitors to your site that actually end up buying something. If you thought you were doing really well but you’re still struggling to make sales, you might be making one of these mistakes.
Not Enough Traffic
While you might think that you’re getting loads of traffic, you could be wrong. The percentage of people that actually convert to sales is very small, so you need a huge amount of traffic before you start seeing that big increase in sales. If your traffic is only increasing slowly, you need to get an SEO company to come in and help you to boost your search engine rankings. Appearing near the top of that Google search is going to drive a lot of relevant traffic to your site and hopefully help you to increase sales. You also need to step up your game on social media and reach more people.
The Wrong Traffic
This is a mistake that a lot of new businesses make with their website. They think that quantity is more important than quality. As we’ve already said, getting as many people as possible to your site is important, but you also need to make sure that they’re the right people. It’s all good and well having thousands of followers on social media and directing them to your site but if they’re not part of your target demographic then you’re not going to get any conversions. Make sure that you’re targeting the right people rather than just trying to reach every single person that you can. If they aren’t ever going to be interested in buying anything from you, you’re just wasting resources on them.
Bad Checkout Page
A bad checkout page is one of the major reasons that you’re not getting conversions because consumers are impatient. So many people abandon their carts at the checkout stage because the process is too lengthy. If you’re forcing people to make an account rather than letting them checkout as a guest, that’s going to lose you customers. Having to go through multiple pages is also annoying for people. The other thing that you’ve got to consider is the payment services that you’re using. People aren’t going to want to put their card details into something that they don’t recognise so make sure that you’re using a well-established platform like paypal or shopify. Once you’ve built the site, you should get people to test it to make sure that it runs smoothly.
Fix these problems and you should see those visitors converting into customers in no time.
